Really hope we don't bring Kapanen up. I dont see him being the difference maker and it would be pretty stupid for a cap stricken team like the Penguins to burn a year off of his ELC because of a few playoff games.

I don't think he'll be called up. Only way is that he kills it in the AHL and the playoffs down there. It's to get him groomed to the NA game more. He'll play less than 10 games this season so a year won't be burned off.

This can be said by about every Penguin forward.

So a fancy stat says BB is better than he actually is? Throw that stat away, after watching BB this season, he's just not a good hockey player. I dont want to hear well he's a top 6 player BS either. You can put Kuni, Comeau, Winnik, Perron, PH on the 3rd line on any team and they can still play well. They have the ability to move up and down the roster. Hell most of those guys would be 3rd line players on some teams.

I would be really curious to know if any GMs, coaches, or any front office type reads blogs like these on a regular, or even semi regular basis to see what eyes outside of their org thinks.

Comparing apples and oranges.... Those players have playing styles that can fit into bottom six rolls very nicely. In fact, Comeau and Winnik ARE bottom six players who are having success in the top six because Crosby and Malkin have the ability to raise people up even if they're not traditional top 6 offensive weapons. It makes me question even further why people want to trade these two special talents. If you want to bash Bennett, you should be looking to bash guys like Neal, Kessel, Seguin, Iginla, Nash, and so on. Not saying that Bennett will ever be on par with any of those guys, but there's plenty of stud players in the NHL who would not have success in a bottom six roll due to their skill set.

On a diffrent note: Bennett sounds motivated. Everyone has started to put him on the same level as Sutter and bash him for being lazy, but it sounds that he's very self aware of his performance, is unhappy with it, and really wants to work to get better. I hope he proves the peanut gallery wrong next season.

My guess is that if any GM were to be referred to your comment they'd laugh. I don't think anyone within any professional franchise gives two poops about what outside eyes think, let alone what amateurs think. Being put into such a high level position and being payed big bucks to do your job inflates egos. It doesn't matter how bad at the job you actually are, you'll never take anyone's outside suggestions seriously.

He actually played very well in the preseason. Clearly had more jump in his game. Yeah, I know it's the preseason. Having multiple knee injuries would slow anybody down. I badly sprained my knee playing football.....it took me most of calender year to get back to normal.

I know you hate the guy, but I don't give him away for nothing like many around here want to do.

He's been very disappointing and I'm a big Bennett guy. I'd hold on to him personally just because his value is so low. I also wouldn't hand him a top 6 dream job next to 2 of the best centers in the world. He has done nothing to earn a top 6 spot and deserves to be in the bottom 6. You can't just hand poop to people they have to earn it. If it starts in the bottom 6 then that's where it starts.

Probably, I doubt they are going to take to heart what outside sources would say... at best with the advanced stats, they might give something a second thought, or have someone give it a look into on their own. But who knows, maybe all this time JR has been a troll on this board via cell phone in the box at games.

I think if they're a smart GM they use all avenues possible to do the job ? Even if it's only infrequently to check and see if somehow they'd missed something.

I don't like Bennett either but he is fine in a bottom 6 role. He's better than Lapierre or Adams and more cost effective than Sutter or Spaling. Knowing the Penguins, they'll give him away for little, he'll end up developing into a quality player, and then they'll trade something valuable to get him back.

New idea for playoff format
Number one overall plays number 16
Number two overall plays number 15
And so on and so on
Tired of the old same old same old playoffs?
This gives some very interesting matchups

Lol you know you're in trouble when you start hoping for Blake Comeau to score. He's been let go by several teams and getting paid 700k for a reason. Good luck with that.

I'm not tired of the same old same old, though. I relish the combat that goes on between the metro teams in the first couple of rounds. I'd say most people feel the same about their own divisions.

And Toronto hired Dubas for his analytics background. Rutherford has used Karmanos for several years now for analytics bringing him over from Carolina.

Goes both ways though. Comeau is starting to play himself into a demotion. Its fine if you think Bennett hasn't earned it, but I think its time for a new look for Geno's right wing, whether it be Downie, Sutter, or Bennett. If you're going to refuse to hand Bennett a top 6 roll, you better not advocate allowing an ineffective player to stay in the top 6 just because he produced (quite out of character, I may ask) for the first half of the season when he hasn't proven that he has the ability to bounce back.

A likely reason Comeau isn't producing as much is because of his injury. Doctors told him he wouldn't get back to 100% until next season. Without his shot, he isn't really the same threat on the ice.

Further reason to demote. Its nothing personal, we just need a guy up there with Malkin who can burry the puck. Resign him and let him battle for a top 6 spot again next season.

Winnik, Sid, Hornie
Perron, Geno, Downie
Kunitz, Sutter, Comeau

I really think Winnik is opening up some space for Sid. I've like what that line is doing.

I think I would keep Comeau on 2nd line. It could work though. I've been saying since Winnik came up with Sid that he should play there and Perron could slot down a line. Winnik is great with Sid and it further distributes our scoring.
